Dinner of the Conspirators
Centuries ago, in the 1500’s, our young king Sebastian died at a battle without descendants, causing a succession crisis.
Because of that, few years later, we lost our independency for Filipe the II king of Spain and a natural heir of our kingdom.
But fortunately, we had some brave Portuguese men, The Conspirators, who fight in secret for the restoration of Portugal’s Independency, and they successful did it, for God’s sake!
So today, we celebrate them with a Holiday – 1st December – and an annual dinner/ball presided by the living descendents of the Portuguese Royal Family, although we are not a monarchy anymore (sadly).
Jantar dos Conjurados
Para quem não sabe, Os Conjurados foram um grupo de cerca 40 portugueses patriotas que em 1640, clandestinamente, planearam e concretizaram a Restauração da Independência de Portugal, que na altura estava sob o reinado da Dinastia Filipina.
Deste então, comemora-se o feriado do 1º de Dezembro e celebra-se um jantar formal anual em sua honra, presidido pelos representantes vivos da Família Real Portuguesa.
